External doors

Front doors, back doors and everything in between

The door you use every day should feel solid, shut properly and look like it belongs on the house. That is most of the job.

Where to start

Doors do more than one job

A front door is the first thing anyone sees, and the main thing keeping the house secure. A back door mostly needs to be easy to live with. Worth being clear which one you are solving before choosing a style.

  • Composite and uPVC front doors
  • French, patio and sliding doors
  • Back doors and side entrance doors
  • Multi-point locking as standard

Door types

What people usually ask for

Front doors

Composite doors in a wide range of colours and glazing options, with side panels where the opening allows. See the composite doors page for more detail.

French and patio doors

For opening a room onto the garden without the cost of a full bi-fold. French doors suit period properties; sliding patio doors suit tighter spaces.

Back and side doors

Less glamorous, more used. Chosen for security and for standing up to being opened twenty times a day in bad weather.

Common questions

Worth knowing before you book

Composite or uPVC?

Composite doors have a solid core and feel considerably more substantial, which is why most people choose them for a front door. uPVC is lighter and cheaper, and is often the sensible option for a back door.

Can we keep our existing frame?

Sometimes, but it is rarely worth it. A door and frame are designed to work as a pair, and hanging a new door in a tired frame tends to bring the problems with it.

How secure are the locks?

Doors are fitted with multi-point locking as standard. If security is your main concern, say so at the visit and we will talk through cylinder and handle options.
