Composite doors
A front door that still feels solid in ten years
Composite doors have a solid core rather than a hollow one. That is the difference you notice every time you close it.

Why composite
Built up in layers, not moulded in one piece
A composite door combines a solid timber or foam core with a tough outer skin. It does not warp like timber, does not flex like uPVC, and holds its colour without repainting.
- Solid core construction
- Wide colour range, inside and out
- Woodgrain and smooth finishes
- Glazing and side panels to suit the opening
Choosing one
Three things worth deciding early
Colour
Most ranges let you specify a different colour inside and out, so the door can be bold from the street and quiet in the hallway.
Glazing
How much glass, and how obscure. A dark hallway usually wants more; a door onto a busy pavement usually wants less.
Hardware
Handles, letterplates and knockers in chrome, black or brushed finishes. Small items, but they set the character of the door.

Common questions
Worth knowing before you book
Will the colour fade?
Composite doors hold colour far better than painted timber. South-facing doors in very dark colours will always take the most sun, which is worth bearing in mind.
Can I have a door with side panels?
Yes, where the opening is wide enough. If it is not, a single door with more glass in it often gets you the light you were after.
Do they need any maintenance?
Very little. Wipe the face down occasionally and keep the hinges and locking points lubricated. There is no painting to do.
