Conservatories

A room you will actually use in February

The difference between a conservatory that becomes the best room in the house and one that becomes storage is nearly always the roof.

Getting it right

Style first, then how it performs

The shape wants to suit the house and the garden. After that, the roof and glazing decide whether the room is comfortable in July and January, which is what determines how much you use it.

  • Victorian, Edwardian, lean-to and P-shaped styles
  • Full height or dwarf wall construction
  • Glass, polycarbonate or solid tiled roofs
  • Matched to existing window frames and colours

Styles

Where most projects land

Lean-to

A simple pitched roof running off the house. Understated, economical, and often the best fit for a bungalow or a property with limited eaves height.

Victorian and Edwardian

The classic shapes. Victorian has a faceted front; Edwardian is square, which makes the floor space easier to furnish.

P-shaped and bespoke

Where a conservatory wraps around a corner of the house, or combines a dining area and a sitting area in one structure.

Common questions

Worth knowing before you book

Will it be too hot in summer?

That depends almost entirely on the roof. Modern glass roofs use solar control coatings, and a solid tiled roof removes the problem altogether. Old polycarbonate is what gives conservatories their reputation.

Do we need planning permission?

Many conservatories fall under permitted development, but it depends on size, height and what has already been added to the property. We will tell you when we think you need to check with the council.

Can we put one on a bungalow?

Yes, though eaves height is usually the limiting factor and often points towards a lean-to design. We will measure it before promising anything.
